Open Enrollment for Health Benefits

Remember that if you want to sign up for, renew, or change your health benefits during this Open Enrollment time, it is from October 2 through October 31, 2012.  If a member uses flexible spending accounts (CBA), they must renew every year. The Open Enrollment Health Fair will be held on Thursday, October 11, 2012 from 12 noon to 5:30 PM at the Berkeley Adult School multi-purpose room on 1701 San Pablo Road in Berkeley. Members should have received a packet by late September 2012. This year's packets didn't include the 10-, 11-, or 12-month employee benefits chart. You can get them at the Health Fair. The District is working on sending out the Benefits Chart via regular mail, email, or district mail.

BCCE and BFT Have Moved as of August 7, 2012

The new location of the BCCE and BFT office is 1432 University Avenue, between Acton Street and Sacramento Street.

Our office is located in a mini strip mall off of University Avenue.  The entrance to our complex is on the south side of University Avenue, between Sacramento Street and Acton Street.  To enter, turn into the driveway by the "Monte Cristo Taqueria" and proceed to the double doors at the end of that complex (the complex also includes a beauty salon and a dollar store).  You must be headed east on University Avenue in order to turn into the driveway.  There is parking available in front of the new office.

If the double doors are not propped open, please ring the doorbell to our office.

Currently, you cannot access our office from the old Andronico's parking lot (because the entire parking lot is fenced off).

BFT and BCCE will continue to share this new office. The BCCE phone number and fax number will remain the same. The following link shows a map, a photo, arrows, and directions: New BCCE Union Office at 1432 University Ave

If you'd like to see the new place, we'd be glad to set up an appointment for you to stop by! (510-540-5002)

Paycheck Integrity: Weinberg, Roger and Rosenfeld Win Another Unfair Practice Charge for the BCCE

We are happy to announce that PERB ruled in favor of the Union's position for members of the IAPP and OTBS units. It is illegal for BUSD to deduct overpayments from wages owed to the district without the member's agreement. The California labor code now applies to recoupment of monies owed to the district. The member will need to agree to a voluntary repayment schedule. Former president Tim Donnelly worked hard on this for over four years. His efforts are appreciated!

For members of the OSS Unit, section 11.6 Overpayments and Payroll Errors still applies.

To read current finding of PERB, click on the following link.

Employer cannot insist to impasse on proposal that would violate employees' rights under California Labor Code, PERB finds.

If you do choose to participate, make sure you verfiy that:

  • You will be protected against legal claims.
  • You completely understand what parents and administrators expect.
  • You get things written down on paper.
  • You have the union go over with you what's written on paper.
  • You make sure you are trained, then receive updated trainings.
  • You learn to diagnose seizures.
  • You learn how to store Diastat, while logging its storage, usage, etc...
